January 11, 2013 – First New Moon of 2013

NEW MOON in Capricorn, January 11, 2013

Today, we begin this year’s first New Moon – with the Sun and Moon conjunct (next to each other) at approximately 22º Capricorn. This union of Sun and Moon in practical Capricorn stresses that this is an excellent time to launch new projects; to make tangible plans with measureable results – all supported by the energy of diligent, responsible Capricorn.

Emotionally when the Moon is in Capricorn, there’s a tendency to set aside personal concerns for the next few days and move ahead with focussed energy into this New Year, 2013.

We’ve all survived the keyed up expectations of December 21, 2012! A lot did happen during the last few months of 2012 – much of it on inner dimensions – where many people felt that they achieved a higher levels of awareness – with bigger pictures of possibilities for themselves and for humanity.

Now with the first new Moon of the New Year – we can ground this enhanced awareness and focus on bringing practical outcomes to support our deeper sense of well-bring. We can do this – whether it’s the further development of intentional communities, preparing for and learning how to live with less material goodies, investing more time in relationships – by bringing our ideals down to earth.

Venus, Mercury and Pluto All in Capricorn

Yesterday, January 10, Venus moved into Capricorn and is moving quickly into a quixotic relationship with Uranus – where we might find ourselves, for example, suddenly falling in and/or out of love, or suddenly finding that our sense of taste and aesthetics have shifted. We no longer like what we liked a short while ago! And this can also change back rather quickly! Venus will keep moving closer and closer to Pluto in Capricorn and be exactly conjunct January 17. Then we might find ourselves in the non-passionate sign of Capricorn – perhaps getting passionate! We may deepen our current relationships and/or find ourselves being more creative and actually producing tangible products.

Mercury is in the sign of Capricorn from January 1- 20 [and will then enter the sign of Aquarius.] So! With all this energy in Capricorn, let’s use this time to focus and set things up for the entire New Year. It could be that we create a Blog or Facebook page, or that we set our intention to participate in Networking events, or that we make a concerted effort to set new measureable goals for any and all areas in our lives.

Stability Energy to Focus on Clear Intention

Meanwhile, Saturn in the sign of Scorpio, is in harmonious relationship with Mercury, Venus and Pluto, bringing us the stability we need to proceed and focus.

This stable underlying energy pattern is a real gift to us – as the next exact squares between Uranus and Pluto occur later on in the Spring. Uranus is associated with the energies of breakdown and breakthrough – with revolution and evolution. Pluto is associated with foundational issues and systems. This continuing on-and-off series of Uranus-Pluto squares will be complete by Spring 2015. In an energetic way – we’re continuing the energy of Pluto conjunct Uranus that occurred in the mid-60’s – to stand up, for example, for justice, equal rights for men and women, as well as each of us expressing our own authenticity.

For now – let’s begin this New Year with focus and clear intentions. There’s an approach to planning that I love – it begins with me experiencing how it feels to be in my chosen outcome, seeing it, hearing it, feeling it, smelling it. Once I feel aligned with that feeling of actually experiencing my desired outcome, I then look back and ask myself – what were the first steps I took on the journey that got me here? What obstacles did I overcome? What opened up for me that may have been blocked before? I encourage you all to experiment with this approach and let me know how it’s working – or not working – for you.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and certainly you can share this email with others. I look forward to hearing from you. Keep looking up!!

Happy New Year!

REMINDER: Astrology Readings – Special Holiday Offerings: December 13 – 31, 2012

Dear Friends,

Today, the FULL MOON is in Cancer , opposite the SUN in Capricorn.  The Moon and Sun are at 7° of their respective Signs and are closely interacting with the major transformational tensions of Pluto and Uranus.

The Sun/Pluto combination brings in the energy and strength to move ahead and take practical action.  Their opposition to the Moon can be challenging in terms of making sure that we take the time to nurture ourselves and others, and check in with ourselves – so that any actions we take are in harmony with our values.

Adding unpredictability into this mix, The Sun/Pluto combination is in a challenging configuration with Uranus – where we may feel we need to break free from conditions that are limiting us in our lives.  The Full Moon squaring Uranus can bring emotional volatility – for no apparent reason.  It’s important to flow with the ups and downs – keeping a still centre.

We’re launching into 2013 with key choices ahead of us – making this  a pivotal time to have a reading.   I encourage you all to take advantage of these Holiday Offerings.

December 13, 2012: New Moon in Sagittarius and YOD (“finger of God”) moving into position

Please see my Special Holiday Pricing on Astrology Readings.

Today is 12/12/12, the birthday of a very dear friend – and a kind of “birth”day for all of us. In my meditation today I saw two cobras (and other animals) and was reminded that it’s time to shed our old skins – leaving whatever is dysfunctional behind. I know it’s a tall order and at the same time – the Astrological configurations in the next couple of weeks support that. We are still in the pattern where Uranus is squaring Pluto – the old weak foundations are falling apart and there is now potentially, more room for the new. Uranus represents the energy of breakdown and also breakthrough. Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, deals with deep foundational issues and systems – personal, societal and Planetary. This major transformational pattern will be present, on and off, until March 2015. I keep thinking of that line of poetry from Leonard Cohen: “Ring the Bells that still can Ring, Forget your Perfect Offering, there is a Crack in Everything, that’s how the Light gets in.”

These are the times prophesized by Elders of many traditions including Maya, Hopi, Hindu, and Algonquin. They remind us that we always have a choice — to take the low road of expediency and selfishness or to take the path of LIGHT, of caring, responsibility and commitment. We are at a pivotal time in history where our choices are dramatically shaping our future.

The NEW MOON in Sagittarius (Sun and Moon together in Sagittarius): Sagittarius reflects the possibility of taking the higher road, having a bigger vision, being in touch with what gives our lives meaning and purpose. It brings with it the opportunity to transform our little self-centred stories into a broader story of what’s good for humanity, our planet and ourselves. We are all in this together. We are all part of the web-like fabric of the Universe. There’s no “somewhere” to go to – we are all here – affecting each other and our “external” environments all the time!

Please – let us all take this time – between now and year’s end – to reflect on our lives – and explore – what are our real priorities and our new stories that are emerging? Let’s expand those “cracks of light” – and create spacious openings for the light of consciousness to move out into our world. A number of years ago, Bill (my husband) and I volunteered full-time to an international organization doing development work in many countries. Every morning after breakfast – we were sent out into the day saying: “These are the Times, and we are the People” – and amazing things were accomplished at the local and global levels.

YOD – the “Finger of God” – this triangular configuration is moving into exact alignment on December 21st and 22nd and then dissipating by the end of this year. Right now Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn are in harmony – giving us the grounding energy to build new, stable foundations. Jupiter in Gemini is moving into an exact YOD (isosceles triangle) alignment with Saturn and Pluto. It can already be felt as the aspects are fairly close. The angles from Saturn and Pluto to Gemini are bringing stress, the need to stretch and to strive. Jupiter brings the energy of spaciousness and expansion – the need to expand our current boundaries in what we can imagine for ourselves, our communities and our world. At the same time, we will need to set some boundaries so we don’t move into melodrama and take actions that are grandiose and unsustainable.

There’s no standing still for too long – we’re being propelled forward and it’s important to note where the doors are opening for us in our lives. Where are the opportunities? Where is it important to have patience and wait for right timing? Where and how can we best contribute – in our own ways – for the good of all? Are we adding to the problems? Are we coming up with solutions? Are we grounded? Are we being kind to ourselves and others?

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone and certainly you can share this email with others.

Keep looking up!!

Mars conjunct Pluto: Intense events around Nov. 27

From my good friend John Irving:

On Tuesday November 27, 2012 Mars will conjunct Pluto at approximately 8° 10′ Capricorn. Astrologically speaking, the elevated levels of conflict, turmoil and polarization occurring in recent times are related to the ongoing squares between Pluto and Uranus (in Aries). The warlike and aggressive energy of Mars combining with Pluto is likely to significantly amplify such events. In fact, if dramatic or intense events or actions were to occur this would be a likely time for them to peak in intensity (+/- 3 days, in particular).

Pluto in Capricorn energizes and represents the establishment, power and authority and Mars joining Pluto brings a powerful stimulus to such affairs. This action oriented energy can be expressed creatively but it can also be expressed ruthlessly, oppressively and violently. My personal interpretation is that we might anticipate heavy handed and possibly brutal tactics to be employed by states, the military or authority figures, or that such actions will greatly intensify, around this time.

This aspect (Mars conjunct Pluto) will be exact at 3:15 PM EST on Tuesday November 27, 2012 (Mars orbit is 687 days) but pay attention during the time frame of November 24-30, in particular, while Mars is within +/- 2° of Pluto.

New Moon in Scorpio and Full Solar Eclipse – November 13, 2012

TODAY: New Moon in Scorpio and Full Solar Eclipse

We have an intense and potentially very-fruitful month ahead! Today’s New Moon in Scorpio is setting the tone for this next lunar cycle. At this time, it’s important to delve more deeply into issues affecting our lives, as well as exploring our inner selves — to help us understand and own what we find within.

During today’s Solar Eclipse, the Scorpio Moon casts a shadow on the Earth. Old emotional patterns may surface — to be acknowledged and welcomed — as they make themselves known. In these ways, we can learn where to focus our healing energies.

Molly’s Astrology is a good Astrology site where Molly suggests making two lists within this next month. Between this New Moon, today, and the next Full Moon, she recommends we make a Solar Eclipse List to claim what we intend for our lives in our near and upcoming future. Then, between the Full Moon and the next New Moon, she suggests making a Lunar Eclipse List to determine what we want to let go of —to allow our best futures to unfold. These are wonderful ways to tap and use the current potent energies.

Meanwhile, Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, is moving through Scorpio for the next couple of years. Saturn is associated with structures of all kinds, both personal and societal. Introspection can yield new awareness of old and current personal issues. We’re in a cycle where it’s very helpful to investigate by looking within — seeing how strong structures remain steady, and how weak structures may collapse and make way for more sustainable structures – more aligned to our real needs. This is further amplified by Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, moving through Capricorn. Over the next several years, Pluto and Saturn are in “mutual reception” – moving through each other’s Signs. This Pluto-Saturn mutuality will continue to assist everyone with co-supportive energies for evolving sustainable changes in our lives.

It’s really important to stay grounded and steady during these times. There are many ways to do this. I find being out of doors is very grounding for me. I also have certain special rocks I’ve collected over the years. Holding them in my hands seems to steady me. Think of ways to help yourselves — a piece of beautiful music, a time to sit quietly. These and similar activities may also work for you. Staying steady will serve ourselves and everyone we encounter personally and professionally — helping them to also stay steady if they’re feeling shaky or ungrounded. Calmness ripples outward.

Meanwhile, Uranus in Aries is in tense relationship with Pluto in Capricorn. Uranus breaks down whatever weaknesses there are in structures, especially societal structures. Uranus is also the energy of breaking though limiting belief systems. Suddenly things are different, perhaps even unrecognizable from before. Uranus in Aries opens ways of transforming old patterns into unanticipated and even very welcome innovative solutions!

As well, Mercury is still moving Retrograde until November 26, when it turns forward again. This is an excellent time for reflection, review and reconsideration!

These are the times prophesized by Elders of many traditions including Maya, Hopi, Hindu, and Algonquin. They reminded us that we always have a choice — to take the low road of expediency and selfishness or to take the high road of caring, responsibility and commitment.

We are at a pivotal time in history where our choices will dramatically shape our future.

Astrology Update – November 6, 2012

Special Offering – see below

Mercury goes “retrograde” today.

Today, on American Election Day – Mercury turns retrograde – and will move forward again on November 26.  For those of you not familiar with this term – retrograde means a Planet appears to go backwards by slowing down relative to the Earth.  Mercury has three cycles each year for about three weeks at a time when it goes retrograde. Today, it is “still” while the retrograde cycle begins.  Mercury is the planet, associated with communication, transportation and technology.  When it goes retrograde, all kinds of glitches can occur with our computers, and our cell phones, with appointments that are cancelled or delayed, and with travel plans. It is highly recommended to put off – until the retrograde period passes – signing any legally binding contracts or agreements.  If you  must sign anything during this period, please pay extra attention to the details and/or have a friend or colleague check things over.

Planet Mercury

The upside of this transit is that during this period it’s a good time to slow down and re-evaluate previous decisions and actions.   Its timely to review previous work or plans, and/or to reconsider certain past agreements and renegotiate.  It’s key that we are patient with ourselves and others and take time to be quiet and mull things over before becoming reactive.

This is the first time in US history that Mercury begins its retrograde period today – exactly on the US Election Day.  In the Bush-Gore campaign of 2000 – Mercury was turning direct on voting  day – standing “still” – bringing the necessity of recounting the votes and not coming up with a clean “victory”.  Everyone’s vote is critical this time – for a clear result.

Other Aspects involving Mercury

At this same time there’s a favorable relationship between Mercury and Uranus, which can be very mentally stimulating.  Ingenuity is the theme for the next few days – brilliant problem solving, quick intelligent responsiveness, and a heightened sense of intuitive knowing.

Uranus squaring Pluto

Planet Uranus

I’ve also written about the ongoing tension between two major planets, Uranus and Pluto – between June 2011 and March 2015.  Uranus is the Planet associate with breakthroughs and breakdowns.  Its energies are unpredictable and can be exciting and rewarding or upsetting and disturbing – especially now – when it’s in the fiery sign of Aries.  Pluto, in the earth sign of Capricorn, delves into foundational issues.  If a foundation is weak – it will fall apart – and it can also bring breakthroughs – allowing for unexpectedly new and exciting directions and solutions to appear.

We’re all experiencing this pattern in our personal lives as well as collectively – with collapsing democracies, banking systems, political systems, and more.  Where it becomes “up close and personal” is when this square affects our birth planets – so if you’re born, for example, in the early degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn  - you may have sudden changes in your direction – at work, with personal relationships, and with setting priorities.  Also if your Moon is in the early degrees of those 4 astrological Signs – you may be finding it imperative to free yourselves from previous limiting conditions, belief systems and emotional patterns, and be more authentically who you are.

The Good News

Right now Venus is in harmony with Jupiter until November 12.  This is a very beneficial time for relationships, travel and attracting resources.  So many people have opened their hearts and wallets and homes by taking actions to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  We can all be benefitting from this period to reach out to friends and loved ones and to extend our generosity to others who need it in our communities wherever we live. We are blessed with so much abundance in a world of severe lack – let’s share it with others – benefitting them and ourselves in the process.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and certainly you can share this with others.

SPECIAL NEW MOON OFFERING (until the coming new Moon in Scorpio – November 13, 2012)

PARTNERSHIP READINGS – $175 (regular price $215)

New Moon in Libra – October 15, 2012

Dear Friends,

Today’s new Moon in Libra is an important and hopeful way to begin this next lunar cycle.  Libra, ruled by the planet Venus, is associated with relationships, fairness, equality, balance and beauty.

With so many conflicts we hear about and are experiencing –  let’s set our priorities to ease conflicts and create mutual support and understanding in our many relationships,  large and small.  This new Moon brings a message that reconciliation, mutual respect and support, tolerance of differences are possible and are vital in creating and maintaining relationships and peace.

Learning how to listen to each other is foundational for mutual understanding.  In this article I’m going to focus on Mercury, the Planet associated with communication – how we receive information, process it and then share with others.  In order to be skillful in relationships there are many things to learn about ourselves and others.

Knowing our style of communication is very helpful as we begin to realize there are 12 different styles to communicating based on where Mercury falls in our charts.  Now, of course, our charts are complex – with many variations – still – it’s a good beginning to learn and understand the basics of  how we communicate.  This knowledge is crucial for our own understanding of ourselves –  and it can also help us  become more tolerant of other people’s ways of listening, processing  and responding.

People born with the Planet Mercury in the following Signs:  These descriptions can be greatly modified depending on how Mercury is related  to other Planets in your chart.  Read all the descriptions and see which ones fit you and which may fit other people in your life!

Aries is the action-oriented Fire sign associated with leadership, impulsiveness, courage and brashness:  People who have Mercury in Aries can be very direct, witty, inventive, impatient, outspoken, speak before they think, and tactless at times.

Taurus is a fixed Earth sign – people who are born with Mercury in this sign learn more from experience than from textbooks.  It’s important for them to be patient with themselves and understand that they need concrete examples and visual cues to communicate effectively.  They can be quite creative as the Planet Venus, rules Taurus.

Gemini is a flexible Air sign.  It’s ruling planet is Mercury, so people with Mercury in Gemini are quick thinkers, curious, funny, intellectual.  They can jump to conclusions and need to learn how to slow down and stay centred.

Cancer is the action-oriented Water sign ruled by the Moon (emotions).  People with Mercury in Cancer tend be emotional communicators..  They can be quite intuitive. When they learn to manage their emotions and understand that if someone disagrees with them – it’s with an idea or belief they have and that it’s not about them personally – they will be more comfortable with themselves and others.  They also tend to think in terms of association of ideas and rarely get to “the point.”

Leo is a fixed Fire sign.  People with Mercury in Leo can be quite rigid in their views and ambitious.  Leo is ruled by the heart.  So if you appeal to their generous natures – it’s much easier to reach them.

Virgo is a flexible Earth sign.  Mercury is the ruler of Virgo.  People who have Mercury in Virgo can be very curious, very bright and quick.  They tend to be logical, thinking in terms of systems and order.  They can be quite analytical and forget that communication happens on many levels, mental, physical, intuitive, emotional.

Libra is an action-oriented Air sign of balance and harmony.  People with Mercury in Libra can be excellent mediators as they can appreciate more than one side of an idea or situation.  They can also be fence-sitters, as they can be challenged when asked to take a stand and not keep wavering between one idea/conclusion/point of view and another.

Scorpio is a fixed Water sign.  People with Mercury in Scorpio can be quite dogmatic and judgemental.  They also can be very perceptive.  They tend to think in terms of the “bottom line” – and can be very impatient with others who think or process differently.

Sagittarius is a flexible Fire sign.  People with Mercury in Sagittarius tend to be very straightforward and love to get to the point. They can be impatient with people who need time to process information.  They’re not really interested in details – they think in terms of the bigger picture.   They can be visionaries.

Capricorn is an action-oriented Earth sign.  People with Mercury in Capricorn tend to be concrete thinkers.  They need specific examples and tend to give many more details than are necessary in a given conversation.  It’s important for them to learn to be aware of the person they’re talking to – making sure they still have their attention.  They do make excellent teachers – especially if they cultivate a sense of humour.

Aquarius is a fixed Air sign.  People with Mercury in Aquarius tend to be intellectual and can also be very intuitive.  They can be stubborn and opinionated.  They are natural communicators in writing and speaking.

Pisces is a flexible Water sign.  People with Mercury in Pisces tend to be mystics and dreamers.  They can also be very creative communicators and story tellers.  They aren’t focused on getting to the point.  They love to embellish and are quite theatrical.  It’s best to reach them emotionally rather than intellectually.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have and certainly you can share this with others.

New Moon – special September offer until the end of the month

Dear Friends,

Key planetary movements are being experienced by all of us right now – at the personal, national and international levels. Political, economic and other systems are shaky, new innovative ideas are coming forth – it’s a cycle of much change and instability – weak foundations are collapsing, and positive breakthroughs are happening – all at the same time!

What does this cycle mean for you?

Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries are two planets in stressful (90º angle) combination – they began this cycle in July 2011 and this intensity will be continuing until March 2015.

In the mid-60’s these planets were next to each other in the sign of Virgo – stimulating much social change. We now are experiencing their combined energies even more intensely as Uranus in Aries is very volatile and Pluto in Capricorn address foundational issues. At the global level – uprisings are happening in many countries – people wanting change to what they perceive as systems that are not working for them.

At the individual level – it’s very important for you to know where Pluto and Uranus are now located in your chart. It’s very relevant to understand exactly where changes are occurring and how to take advantage of the momentum.

If you have any personal planets – Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars – in Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn – you are very likely to be personally affected. It’s helpful to know which areas need healing – what are your choices? What strategies can you use to gracefully shift into new patterns and move ahead? It’s also a very creative time – as much as we resist changes, when we finally make them – there is release and relief!

Saturn moving into the sign of Scorpio

The planet Saturn is completing its (almost 3 year) journey through Libra. Libra is all about relationships. Saturn is that energetic pattern that has been testing the strength and resiliency of personal, business and collegial relationships. Being able to compromise and cooperate – searching for common ground – have been explored with greater and lesser results. Where have you chosen to cooperate? Where have you chosen “to stand your ground”? Have your relationships deepened? Have they dissolved? What have you learned?

The next Saturn cycle will occur when Saturn moves into the sign of Scorpio on October 6, 2012 and will be in that sign until mid-September 2015. The shift in learning will move into the deepest parts of our lives – our foundational beliefs – for power and recognition, for attainment of desires. Positively, it will strengthen our steadfastness and loyalty. It will test us in the areas where we have planets in other fixed signs – namely in Taurus, Leo and Aquarius.

Given the intensity of our changing times, as time actually feels that it’s speeding up – how can we access our still calm centres?

New Moon in Virgo September 16th

It’s time for new beginnings using practical approaches.

Astrology Update August 2012

Dear Friends,

I do apologize for the delay in writing Astrology updates. During this past Mercury retrograde period, I’ve found myself floundering – in terms of thinking crisply and clearly! My main energies were focussed on staying grounded as I felt almost “swept away” by the speed and intensity of energies these past few weeks.

I’m really happy to be back!

Keep Looking UP!

Mercury began its retrograde cycle on July 15th at 12.5 degrees of Leo. By August 7, it was at 1.5 degrees Leo before making a station (pausing) and now is moving “direct” again.

What does this mean?

Yes, Mercury is moving forward now and will pass 12.5 degrees on August 22nd. This means that we’re not completely finished the Mercury retrograde period until it passes 12.5 degrees (where it started its retrograde period.)

So –this is still a good time for reviewing and redoing projects, mulling over new and old ideas, backing up our data and moving projects forward that may have been stalled or delayed.

I have written about this before and feel it’s time to mention it again. There’s tremendous intensity in this Uranus-Pluto configuration that began in July 2011 will be on and off making exact angles of tensions until mid-April 2015. Uranus is moving through the very volatile fire sign of Aries bringing the energy of breakdown and breakthrough to individuals, groups, structures, institutions and nations.

Many of us have been experiencing time moving much more rapidly now. Right now one main objective and focus is to stay as calm as possible and be a ground for this electrifying energy pattern. It’s time for us to express ourselves authentically – moment by moment.

Pluto is moving through the earth sign of Capricorn for 12 more years. Pluto deals with deep foundational matters. Capricorn with its ruler, Saturn, represents structures of all kinds – including our skeletal alignment and collective issues involving systems– political, economic, societal and planetary integrity.

In the shorter term Venus has just entered the sign of Cancer and will be there until September 7 when it will enter Leo. Cancer is the sign of needing to feel secure, for nurturing self and others, and also experiencing emotions that may rise and fall like the cycles of the Moon. During Venus in Cancer it’s a wonderful time to spend with family and close friends.

Saturn has been moving through the sign of Libra since July 22, 2010. It will be entering the sign of Scorpio in early October 2012 where it will remain until early January 2015. Saturn in Scorpio will bring a major shift in our collective energies. Libra is the sign of partnerships, and finding balance. Saturn points out where we have much work to do and where it’s important to focus. We’ve had escalating violent power struggles in many countries during this period. Mediation and moderation have been overwhelmed. The lessons to be learned, individually and collectively are still very very relevant. It’s important to find peace within – that where peace begins.
